Latest Aboriginal death in custody not being treated as suspicious despite serious allegations

aboriginal death tamworth not suspicious

After several days of media silence, a single report has emerged about the death of a 22 y.o Aboriginal man in Tamworth this week.

The very short media release appeared a few hours ago. The report is from ‘The Northern Daily Leader’ who had been in contact with a NSW correctional services spokeswoman.

The department told the Northern Daily that the Corrective Service Investigation unit which is part of the NSW police force will be conducting the investigation of the death and will prepare a report about the death. The report made no mention of the protests held yesterday or the serious allegations that surround the death.

The news release ended with the following 2 sentences:

“The death is not being treated as suspicious.

“All deaths in custody are referred to the NSW Coroner.”

The next known protest is a National Day of Action in response to all Indigenous deaths in custody on Friday September 29th. Show your support by joining the event here.
