South Sydney winger, Alex Johnston has made it known that he would accept any offer that is made to represent Papua New Guinea during the Rugby League world cup later this year.

The speedster is currently the joint NRL leading try scorer and if he is not selected to play for the Kangaroos, he would be honoured to represent his grandmother who is of Papuan/Torres Strait Islander descent. His Grandmother, Mary, moved to Australia when she was young and Alex is very close to her.

Alex has previously represented Australia as well as the Indigenous all stars. Aside from his Grandmother, Alex’s mother hails from Saibai island in the Torres Strait which is just a stones throw away from the mainland of Papua New Guinea. Apart from selection news, Alex has also commented on how he is happy with his recent form that has him sitting at the top of the NRL leading try scorers list. Alex idolised Nathan Merrit growing up and is proud to be on a similar journey as the South Sydney great.
