Anthony Mundine has proved his critics wrong during his time on Channel 10’s reality television show I’m a celebrity get me out of here.
Channel 10’s decision to invite Anthony Mundine onto I’m a celebrity… get me out of here is paying off for both Anthony Mundine and Channel 10. The show has given the Australian public the chance to see the other side of Mundine that they would normally never get to see. Channel 10 has also seen their ratings boosted with the arrival of Mundine and long time boxing rival Danny Green.
In the past Mundine consistently generates headlines before major fights which is when many people believe Mundine purposely causes controversy in the lead up to those fights. There are many others though who are not so sure and they feel that Mundine is a full time #$%$#%.
Over the last week many Australians have been tuning into the reality tv show to see how much controversy Mundine will cause. The viewers and possibly Network 10 have been surprised to see the other side of the champion boxer and ex NRL superstar. During a short time viewers have witnessed class, patience, humbleness, respect and empathy that many people may not have seen before.

Last night, Channel 10 posted an emotional video to social media which showed Mundine detailing how he was impacted by a man who almost took his own life. Mundine was in tears as he recounted the story of the man who had a simple ambition of one day meeting Mundine. The man was reminded of this dream by his daughter who walked in on him when he was preparing to commit suicide.
This display triggered many self confessed critics to admit they had been falsely judging one of Australia’s greatest professional athletes. These responses came just days after Mundine once again refused to acknowledge the Australian national anthem. Will they now be able to consider why he chooses to do so?
The post also prompted people who know Mundine personally to highlight some of the other unsung deeds Mundine has been responsible for. Including connecting with charities and volunteer youth work.
It appears Mundine still has a few critics to win over and of course his harshest critics (the media) are still focusing on other comments made on the show about women dressing modestly. Some media outlets are labeling his comments as sexist when they may actually be religious views. Let’s hope the show directors don’t join the media frenzy to try and create an ugly situation.
