Artist Profile – (Rex) Winston Walford
Rex is a proud Kamilaroi/Gamilaroi man with an exceptional talent. We are so pleased to be able to feature his work on Welcome to Country. All of his works are very intricate in their detail and Rex has set a high standard for this modern style that reflects ancient customs. Rex was adopted at a young age to a non-Indigenous family and only began to reconnect with his biological family just a few years ago. Art runs in his family with the likes of his, Uncle Phillip Hall, who is a long established Indigenous artist.
Rex has been a finalist in the NSW Parliament house Indigenous art prize in 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009 & 2010. One of his unique skills is being able to transfer peoples fingerprints onto canvas. These incredible prints, along with his other mesmerizing pieces have also seen him become a social media sensation.

Welcome to Country is dedicated to making Indigenous art more accessible and we are committed to making easier for people to contact artists directly. Part of the reason for this initiative is to combat the fake Indigenous art that is sold throughout Australia. If you would like to be featured, please contact us via our Facebook page or by email.
