Dylan Voller targeted by police at Alice Springs youth prison protest

Breaking: Dylan Voller and his mother have both been targeted by police in today’s shut youth prisons protest in Alice Springs.

Earlier today at a Shut Youth Prisons rally in Alice Springs, police became aggressive towards protesters after they had moved outside of the organised protest area. The group members were in the process of obstructing traffic n the Stuart Highway.

This type of protest has become quite common in recent years. Most notably, there have been Indigenous protests in Melbourne and Brisbane that have broken from pre-organised routes without police interference. But in the Northern Territory it is a complete different story. As you can see in the vision below, the police put their own lives in danger by using unnecessary force on Aboriginal protesters.

According to a police statement, the protesters who were detained were released several hours later with fines in excess of $400.

Dispicable police violence today in Alice Springs at a peaceful march against police brutality, racial profiling, deaths in custody, violence and torture in youth prisons, higher rates of black people imprisoned here than in Apartheid South Africa. The crowd were calling out for "bush camps not boot camps", "kids on country, not in custody"… 6 arrests including Dylan Voller and his mother Joanne. Disgusting Shame Job.
