The HSC has come and gone for another year, but away from the big cities, Aboriginal students in the town of Menindee were creating history.
At the Menindee Central School, students are taking part in a pilot program that sees Indigenous language studies as an elective subject in the HSC. The students are learning from Barkindji teacher, Kayleen Kerwin, who helped design the syllabus and teaches the students at Menindee Central School.

The future of the program is still not known, but for Kayleen and the students, the program is helping to strengthen a language that was under severe threat of being lost forever. Kayleen is hopeful that this next generation of students will also be able to pass on their language in the future.
