You could be forgiven for not being aware that Leonardo Dicaprio has joined a group of very few celebrities who have turned their attention and lent their star power towards supporting Indigenous people in Australia.

Yesterday Dicaprio shined a light on the recent “Water is life” protests that happened in Canberra earlier this month. The protests were organized by seedmob and were calling on the protection of land and waterways across Australia which is in the interests of all.

Dicaprio shared 7 images from the protest to over 29 million of his followers on Instagram. The protest was attended by Indigenous people from all across Australia and DiCaprio backed up the message that our land and waterways deserve better protection from corporate greed which continues to grow in Australia and across the world.

Dicaprio has been involved in environmental activism for over 20 years and is the main focus of his own foundation. We thank him and encourage other celebrities to get behind Indigenous led grassroots activism. The world is at a tipping point and sitting on the fence will only hurt us all.

We have written this story to highlight and shame the efforts Australia’s corporate owned media make in order to protect their own interests. We would also like to encourage our readers to get behind seedmob who are still trying to raise money to cover the costs of the event.
