Some people may not realise that Aboriginal Memes have played a huge role in awakening our collective consciousness over the last 8 years on social media.
Let’s take a look back at some of the most powerful Aboriginal memes that have helped awaken, educate and shape the current state of Aboriginal resistance in Australia. There was a period from around 2012 to 2016 when most of these memes were born and really sent Aboriginal Facebook pages like Blackfulla Revolution into overdrive. Most importantly some of these memes became the catalysts for people to begin to engage and take a deeper look at Indigenous issues in Australia. The memes highlight historical events and lead us up to present day areas of conflict and issues surrounding our people.
As far as we know this meme together with it’s misspelling of the word immigrants was the first meme to really go viral around late 2012 & early 2013.
